About Us

NewPages is the Portal of Independents! Founded in the early 1970s as a print publication, NewPages provides online news, information, and guides to literary magazines, independent and university publishers, graduate and undergraduate creative writing programs, independent bookstores, alternative periodicals and newsweeklies, writing conferences and events, and more.

From Utne magazine: "NewPages.com, the best overall Internet portal to the alternative press, independently organizes pages of links to hundreds of magazines, independent publishers and bookstores, literary magazines, newsweeklies, and review sources. NewPages.com also publishes unique book and zine reviews, and an interesting weblog broadly covering the world of arts, publishing, and libraries."

Nicole Foor, Managing Editor
Nicole graduated with a BA in English with an Emphasis in Writing and a minor in Computer Information Services from Adrian College. Her free time is spent experimenting in the kitchen; crocheting; blogging about Asian dramas, movies, and music; and looking after her grandfather and pets. Nicole just acquired a dog so tiny, it won’t even fill a hotdog bun. As Managing Editor of NewPages, she handles the Classifieds section, special projects, and does her best to keep the Guides to Literary Events and Writing Contests as up-to-date as she can.

Katy Haas, Assistant Editor
Katy Haas is a poet and collage artist living in Mid-Michigan. Recent work can be found in Afternoon Visitor, Taco Bell Quarterly, perhappened, and Atelier du Soleil among others. As Assistant Editor at NewPages, Katy appreciates the opportunity to read and edit review submissions and to learn more about literary magazines, presses, and independent bookstores. In her free time, she is currently experimenting with videography and photography.

Denise Hill, Editor-in-Chief
Denise Hill is a two-year college English professor specializing in developmental writing and world mythology. She began writing reviews for NewPages in 2003 then became the review editor and eventually the editor-in-chief. Her favorite part of working on NewPages is helping people connect with resources and making decisions about commas. She manages the Young Writers Guides and has assisted countless young editors as they begin new publications. Denise enjoys the creative process of writing and drawing cartoons daily. She is a fan of double IPAs and Belgian triples: “Nothing less than 10%” is her gold standard.

Casey Hill, Publisher
Casey Hill founded NewPages while running an indie bookstore in the shadow of Auto World in Flint, Michigan sometime in the 70s. He was interested in helping to promote radical, alternative books and publications to readers nationwide, and the NewPages print journal became a favorite among libraries and booksellers. In 1999, Casey took a bold move by transitioning NewPages from paper to the world wide web, and shortly thereafter met and married a college English teacher who helped usher in more literary and creative writing content for the site. In addition to his full-time commitment to NewPages, Casey is a voracious consumer of news media, enjoys getting lost in the endless "play next video" loop of YouTube, and will never turn down a barrel aged stout.
