Publisher's Description: Publishing short stories online since 2000, Carve is known for launching the careers of many writers, has received special mentions from the Pushcart Prize, and has been recognized by the Million Writers Award as having the best online fiction.
We accept short story, poetry, and nonfiction submissions via Submittable (for a small fee) and by mail (fee-free) year-round. We pay our contributors in cash and contributor copies. If we don't publish your story and someone else does, we'll add you to our ever-growing Decline/Accept list. We also try to provide feedback on at least 5-10% of declined submissions.
Carve hosts two annual contests that dole out over $5000 in combined prizes: the Raymond Carver Short Story Contest and the Prose & Poetry Contest for fiction, poetry, and nonfiction. These international contests are known for discovering new writers who have never been published.
Read 100+ stories online for free or subscribe to our print or digital issues for exclusive features not found online, including poetry, nonfiction, contributor interviews, and original illustrations.
